I was attending an event in New York City where I saw Jerry Greenfield speak about how he and his partner started Ben & Jerry’s. It was an incredible back story that you don’t often hear about unless you were watching a CNN special.
What happened later that evening blew my mind. At a networking event that evening I am standing around eating finger foods at a small underground tavern and guess who walks in?
He gave out about 20 hugs and then started scooping ice cream and taking pictures with everybody there….for 2 hours.
I got a chance to chat with him about diversity and leadership and he was the nicest man in the world. He served everybody there with a smile on his face.
When I had the opportunity to chat with him he said that we all have to realize that we’re more alike than we are different and that leaders should operate their companies and organizations with those values. It was a phenomenal experience I will never forget.
